KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, 25 August 2022 – Mölnlycke, a world-leading medical product and solutions company, has announced two landmark partnerships with global sustainability solutions providers ENGIE and Veolia. Aiming to deliver best-in-class energy-saving and wastewater treatment solutions respectively for its on-going and upcoming projects, Mölnlycke strives to build a sustainable healthcare manufacturing ecosystem whilst addressing the market demands for high-quality medical devices.

These collaborations are in line with the championed WeCare – Mölnlycke’s sustainability transformation agenda and to operationalise their commitment to net zero carbon emissions by latest 2050.  For example, Mölnlycke has set a global target of utilising 100 per cent renewable electricity at all manufacturing sites by the end of 2024. This target has already been achieved for Mölnlycke’s plants in Mikkeli (Finland), Oldham (UK), Brunswick (USA), and Horsens (Denmark) as well as their existing facilities in Malaysia and will soon be extended to the upcoming surgical gloves manufacturing plant in Kulim, Kedah.

Sustainability has always been the forerunner of our organisation’s values. These partnerships with ENGIE and Veolia will be a pivotal breakthrough for Mölnlycke in strengthening our 2030 WeCare targets as each partner offers its own effective solutions to reduce the environmental impact within manufacturing processes. I am very pleased to be working with them in bringing our ‘WeCare’ targets to life and pushing us forward to become a global leader in sustainable healthcare. I also believe this is an important step in supporting Malaysia's sustainable development by bringing sustainable energy management, economic growth and innovation in infrastructure all together,” said JC Guillou, Vice President Global Operations, of Mölnlycke.

As a leading industry player in energy transition and energy-saving solutions, multinational enterprise ENGIE’s speciality in low-carbon energy management and provision supply will also endeavour to support Mölnlycke by installing solar panels at its manufacturing plants as one source of electricity to power the overall production and operations.

“ENGIE is proud to be the chosen long-term sustainability partner to Mölnlycke in accelerating their low-carbon journey in Malaysia. This will be an important milestone for our partnership, helping the Kulim plant use as little energy as possible. More broadly, the project exemplifies how industry players can reap economic benefits by accelerating their energy transition with low-carbon solutions,” Thomas Baudlot, CEO Energy Solutions APAC and Country Head for Southeast Asia.

Veolia is a multinational organisation that designs and provides game-changing solutions that are both useful and practical for water, waste and energy management. Through the partnership Veolia and Mölnlycke will continue to promote a circular economy and improve wastewater management, introducing solutions that effectively assist in recycling water and minimising the discharged quantity in compliance with regulations of the state. Veolia’s digitalised and efficient water plant will lower the water consumption at Mölnlycke’s manufacturing plants. Upon implementation at the upcoming manufacturing plant in Kulim, these solutions are expected to reduce water consumption by 50 per cent, potentially further reducing it by 30 per cent when the plant is fully operational in 2026.

“Veolia is firmly committed to championing ecological transformation. We are excited to partner with companies like Mölnlycke, who seek to establish sustainable practices and integrate a green mindset into their business. Our team is proud to be part of Mölnlycke's expansion plans in Malaysia and we look forward to more avenues to support their endeavour for greater sustainability and improved performance,” said Olivier Estienne, Country Director, Malaysia for Veolia Water Technologies.

The sustainability efforts are set to be implemented in Mölnlycke’s upcoming new surgical gloves manufacturing plant in the town of Kulim, Kedah, Malaysia. Along with its sustainable achievements, the newly built manufacturing plant in Kulim is expected to accelerate the supply of high-quality surgical gloves and meet future demands, offering more job opportunities for the local community and ultimately boosting the livelihoods and economy.
