ENGIE, a global leader in low-carbon energy and services today announced that they have been appointed by VAT, the global leader in high-performance vacuum valves technology for the semiconductor, digital display, and other high-precision industries, to develop a nearly 1.5 MWp rooftop solar array.

The appointment includes a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) between ENGIE Services Malaysia, one of the entities under ENGIE South East Asia, and VAT Manufacturing Malaysia. The solar system is anticipated to avoid nearly 23,000 tonnes of CO2 over the contract period, and supply over 41,000 MWh of low-carbon energy to VAT’s new manufacturing facility, factory 1B in Batu Kawan Industrial Park, Penang, Malaysia. Under the PPA agreement, ENGIE will build, own, and operate the solar array, transferring the system to VAT at the end of the contract term.

This latest solar project moves VAT one step closer to realising its goal of reducing its scope 1 and 2 emissions 50% by 2025. The new rooftop solar system with ENGIE will also lower VAT’s operating costs and add resilience to its energy supply, while contributing towards Malaysia’s goal of achieving 40% renewable energy capacity in 2040.
