“At ENGIE, I take inspiration from the female leaders around me: how they balance their personal lives with work, and how they make exceptional leaders while staying true to their identities as women.”

Driving Sustainability For The World

As a sustainability solutions manager in ENGIE Impact, Amelia works tirelessly to help accelerate the sustainability transition of companies looking to make a difference by going green.

Her work in ENGIE’s advisory business engages directly with clients in helping them achieve their sustainability goals.

Her responsibilities include building ambitious decarbonization roadmaps for clients: from setting targets and developing emissions reduction from strategies to implementation.

Amelia’s role requires her to take on the responsibility of being a consultant and a manager of a growing team that started just 2 years ago.

She mentions, “Thanks to ENGIE, I have developed expertise in sustainability which I am passionate about. The breadth and depth of knowledge being shared throughout the company has helped me better support my clients on their decarbonization journeys.”

A Fight Against Climate Change

Amelia’s motivation for driving sustainability stems from her love of the natural world and the outdoors. She feels it is a real shame that the natural environment has been degraded and neglected in our stride to progress as a society.

“On a personal level, it’s this drive to slow down the rate of change from human impact,” Amelia highlights.

She believes that climate change is a social justice issue that has to be addressed as its effects will affect different parts of society differently. “The ones who have less are also going to suffer more,” she explains.

It is necessary to take swift action to help safeguard today’s resources, reduce the damage done to communities and protect the environment for our future generations.

When quizzed about the biggest causes of climate change, Amelia attributes it to our culture of consumerism, where the pursuit for more is causing us to be more wasteful.

As her work is directly tied to the sustainability sector, she aspires to continue playing a catalytic role in helping businesses achieve and accelerate their green goals. This means working in functions that consider the big picture, such as allocating capital or developing products or services to help advance sustainability for companies and communities.

Beyond Gender Equality

Gender equality is an important issue to Amelia and as a baseline, she believes it is not to have any opportunities precluded based on your gender.

Ideas are important and should be taken seriously no matter who you are.

To Amelia, organizations need to consider the different needs and priorities of the individual actively. “It is about acknowledging and accepting that diversity. Being able to craft systems, processes, and institutions that accommodate and leverage on those differences,” Amelia points out.

These differences go beyond just family and childcare needs and include people’s unique personalities and ways of working beyond gender.

Inspired From The Top

One key aspect of ENGIE that Amelia loves is having female leaders throughout the organization, from the top down.

She highlights the importance of having female leadership, including the Directors at ENGIE Impact showcased ENGIE’s commitment towards Diversity & Inclusion.

“Having accessible such role models is very important. At ENGIE, I take inspiration from female leaders around me: how they balance their personal lives with work, and how they make exceptional leaders while staying true to their identities as women,” shares Amelia.
