As the demand for renewable energy grows, so does the need for transparency and credibility in how it’s sourced and certified. That’s where EKOenergy come in – an international nonprofit ecolabel led by environmental NGOs to ensure that renewable energy delivers real-world benefits beyond carbon reduction.
By offering EKOenergy-labelled renewable energy certificates (RECs), ENGIE helps clients make informed, verified choices by turning everyday energy use into measurable environmental and social impact. This reinforces our commitment to delivering sustainable, transparent, and future-ready energy solutions across Asia Pacific.
What is EKOenergy?
EKOenergy is an internationally recognised nonprofit ecolabel for renewable energy. It goes beyond standard certification by ensuring that energy:
- Meets strict sustainability criteria, including protection of biodiversity and ecosystems
- Is reliably tracked, avoiding double-counting
- Contributes to the global energy transition, with €0.10 per MWh allocated to clean energy projects in low- and middle-income countries through the EKOenergy Climate Fund
- Aligns with international standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, CDP, and RE100
Why this matters
By joining EKOenergy, ENGIE strengthens its ability to help clients meet their sustainability goals while contributing to broader global impact. The EKOenergy label is a powerful tool for organisations seeking to:
- Demonstrate leadership in renewable energy sourcing
- Support the UN Sustainable Development Goals
- Ensure their energy choices are backed by civil society and environmental NGOs
A step forward in our sustainability journey
Our collaboration with EKOenergy marks another step in ENGIE’s broader mission to make low-carbon energy accessible, credible, and inclusive. Whether through PPAs, RECs, or 24/7 renewable power offers, we continue to explore new ways to help our clients transition with confidence and at the same time, create measurable impact for a sustainable future.
